HON. OFFIONO AGITATES FOR CREATION OF OGOJA STATE BY ANDREW USMAN.

Hon. Godwin Offiono, a lawmaker representing Ogoja Iyala Federal Constituency in Cross River State, is championing the creation of Ogoja State from the present Cross River State. He believes this demand is long overdue and seeks to correct historical injustices dating back to Nigeria's pre-independence era

Offiono's argument is rooted in equity and fairness, highlighting that Ogoja was one of 24 provinces created before Nigeria gained independence, yet it remains the only one not metamorphosed into a state. He emphasizes that the principle of equity demands rotation and fair share distribution, ensuring everyone receives their due

*Key Points of Offiono's Argument:*

Historical Injustice*: Ogoja Province was created before Nigeria's independence but hasn't become a state

-Equity and Fairness*: Other provinces have become states, and Ogoja deserves the same treatment .

- Constitutional Requirements*: Ogoja meets the land mass, population, and economic viability criteria for state creation

- Population and Resources*: Over 2 million people occupy 13,000 square meters of land, with sufficient resources to sustain a state

Offiono's bill, co-sponsored by other lawmakers, has passed its second reading in the House of Representatives

As a member of the committee on state creation, Offiono vows to leave no stone unturned in making Ogoja State a reality ⁵.
