The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a new Import Duty Calculator for 2026 to help importers and clearing agents estimate their duty payment before their cargo arrives at Apapa , Tin Can Island , Onne and other ports. This follows complaints by importers that duty valuation at Lagos anchorage and terminals is not transparent and leads to overpayment and delays in berthing clearance. The Customs Duty Calculator is an online portal where you input your cargo details — HS Code , FOB value , weight, and quantity — and it calculates the total amount you will pay as Customs duty, VAT, and other charges at Apapa and Tin Can. The Lagos anchorage is busy this morning, September 22, 2026, with 18 vessels waiting to berth at Apapa and Tin Can Island Port Complex (TCIP), according to information from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Marine Operations. The Akwa Ibom State Government is steadily advancing plans with prospective technical and financial partners toward full commencement of operations at the Ibom Deep Seaport project. According to maritime industry assessment, when completed, the Ibom Deep Seaport will serve as a major complement to the Tin Can Island Port Complex (TCIP) in Lagos and other existing ports, by providing an alternative anchorage and berthing hub for shipping lines, freight agents and importers operating in the Gulf of Guinea.
