TODAY'S ANALYSIS – WHAT 12 VACANT MEANS FOR YOU:

1.  Apapa not congested today: Unlike 2023 when all berths full and vessels spent 21 days at Lagos Anchorage, today ∼40% berths are VACANT. This means faster berthing for your containers.

2.  Import volume drop: Lower white-product volumes = Fewer tankers + bulk carriers – Matches VACANT at GDNL, ABTL. Good for container importers.

3.  Good for Northern importers (Abuja, Kano, Kaduna):If you have container on RHONE MAERSK or ALS FIDES – Clearing faster this week. Truck out of Apapa to Abuja now in 2-3 days not 7 days, if e-call-up compliant.

EXPECTED VESSELS – NPA DAILY SHIPPING POSITION:

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) says 44 ships carrying petroleum products, food items and other goods are expected at Apapa, Lekki Deep Sea and Tin Can Island ports in Lagos this week.

15 of the expected ships are carrying containers laden with various goods, while 5 vessels are carrying aviation fuel. Remaining 29 ships expected to berth with crude oil, diesel, general cargo, bulk gas, steel, bulk urea and bulk clinker.

FG PORTS UPDATE:

The Federal Government has approved comprehensive modernisation and upgrade of four major ports outside Lagos – Onne, Rivers, Delta and Calabar – to join Apapa and Tin Can Island. Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola announced this. This will reduce pressure on Lagos and create additional gateways for cargo. Good news for Eastern importers.
