Clearing Agent Charges in Lagos Apapa Oct 2026 – Full Cost Breakdown From Abuja Importers [Full Breakdown] By Okwo romeon|Abuja

For every Abuja importer in Dei-Dei, Kado, and Gosa markets, the biggest fear after paying supplier in China is: How much will Lagos clearing agent collect? Many have been cheated – Agent collects N500k fee plus fake demurrage N400k that doesn't exist.

Why Apapa Agent Charges Are High in 2026

Apapa port handles 60% of Nigeria imports. After NPERA Act 2026, terminal charges are regulated but agent fees are not fixed – Agent can charge what they want – That is why you see N250k to N800k for same 20ft. The difference is negotiation and knowledge.

TICT clearing agent charges receipt Apapa Oct 2026 N420k terminal handling – Nigeria Anchorage

I import through Apapa every month for Abuja clients. Last week I cleared 2 x 20ft containers of building materials and 1 x 40ft of electronics. Today I give you real agent charges in Apapa 2026 – With receipts – So no agent can cheat you again.

Real Clearing Agent Charges in Lagos Apapa 2026 – 20ft Container

I will use my last clearing as example – 20ft container with tiles – Arrived TICT Apapa Sept 28 2026:

1. Agent Professional Fee: N250,000 – N350,000

This is what agent keeps for his work – Following up Customs, shipping line, terminal – Standard is N300k for 20ft in 2026 – If your agent charges N500k, you are paying double – Negotiate to N300k – My agents charge N250k for repeat clients.

2. Customs Duty: N4,500,000 – N7,000,000 for general goods

This is not agent fee – This goes to Customs – Depends on HS code – Tiles N5.2M for 20ft – Electronics N6.8M – Agent must show you Customs assessment paper – The assessment has duty amount – If agent says duty N7M but assessment shows N5.2M, he is stealing N1.8M – Always ask for assessment.

3. Terminal Charges – TICT Apapa: N420,000 for 20ft in 2026

This is official – TICT receipt – N380k handling + N40k other – For 40ft: N680,000 – This is fixed – Agent cannot increase – Ask for TICT receipt – If he cannot provide, he added money.

4. Shipping Line Charges – Demurrage and Surcharges: N0 if cleared in 7 days

Shipping line gives 7 days free after arrival – If you clear within 7 days, you pay N0 demurrage – After 7 days: N68,500 per day for 40ft, N38,500 for 20ft – In my case, I cleared in 5 days – Paid N0 demurrage – Many agents fake demurrage N200k-N400k even when cleared early – Ask for shipping line invoice with date.

5. NDLEA, SON, NAFDAC Inspection: N50,000 N100,000

Joint inspection fee – Official N30k but agents collect N50k-N100k for facilitation – Negotiable.

6. Transport Apapa to Abuja Dei-Dei: N1,200,000 – N1,400,000 for 20ft

This is truck from Apapa to Dei-Dei – My driver charged N1.3M last week – Diesel cost increased – From Apapa to Abuja 12-14 hours – If you use Kaduna dry port rail, you pay N800k rail Apapa to Kaduna + N400k truck Kaduna to Abuja = N1.2M total – Save N100k and avoid Lagos traffic that adds 10 days.

Total Cost to Clear 20ft and Bring to Abuja in 2026:

Duty N5.2M + Terminal N420k + Agent N300k + Inspection N70k + Transport N1.3M = N7,290,000 – All inclusive to reach Dei-Dei If duty higher, add difference.

Real Charges for 40ft Container Apapa to Abuja 2026

For 40ft container – My electronics container:

Agent fee: N400,000 – N500,000 – I paid N450k

Terminal TICT: N680,000 fixed

Duty: N9M – N13M depending on goods – My electronics N11.2M

Transport Apapa to Abuja: N1,800,000 – N2,100,000 – I paid N1.9M

Demurrage: N0 if 7 days

Total: N14,230,000 to reach Abuja – 40ft.

Comparison: Onne vs Apapa – Which Cheaper for Abuja?

Many Abuja importers now use Onne port – My comparison:

Apapa 40ft transport to Abuja: N1.9M

Onne 40ft transport to Abuja: N2.4M – N2.6M – Higher because distance

But Onne terminal charges cheaper by N180k and agent fee cheaper by N100k – For 40ft, Onne total cheaper by N300k if you import heavy goods.

For 20ft, Apapa still cheaper for Abuja because transport difference small.

How Abuja Importers Are Cheated – 3 Tricks

Trick 1: Fake demurrage

Agent says shipping line charged N400k demurrage – But container cleared in 5 days – Free period 7 days – No demurrage – He pockets N400k – Always ask for shipping line debit note with container arrival date and release date.

Trick 2: Inflated duty

Agent says duty N7M – Customs assessment shows N5.2M – He adds N1.8M – Ask for assessment printout with Customs logo.

Trick 3: Double terminal charges

Agent collects N420k terminal + another N200k "port charges" – But N420k already includes port charges – Ask for TICT official receipt.

How to Negotiate Agent Fee to N250k-N300k in 2026

1. Get 3 quotes – Don't use first agent – Call 3 agents in Apapa – Ask: "20ft tiles TICT – How much is your professional fee only – Not including duty and terminal?"

2. Tell them you have 2 containers monthly – Even if 1 – Agents reduce fee for repeat.

3. Offer N250k flat – Many accept if you pay duty directly to Customs – Not through them.

My Verified Agents for Abuja Importers

I work with 3 agents in Apapa who charge N250k-N350k flat – No cheating – They provide all receipts – They clear to Abuja in 10 days – Check my Hire a Clearing Agent page – I added their WhatsApp – For Dei-Dei and Kado importers – I negotiated N250k rate for my readers.

Cheapest Route for Abuja Importers in 2026 My Advice

If you import general goods 20ft monthly: Use Apapa TICT – Clear in 7 days – Use rail to Kaduna N800k + truck to Abuja N400k = N1.2M transport – Total cheaper than direct truck and faster.

Kaduna dry port

If you import 40ft heavy: Consider Onne – Terminal cheaper + less congestion – Even with higher transport N2.5M to Abuja, total similar but faster clearance 4 days vs 7 days Apapa.

Final Checklist Before Paying Apapa Agent in 2026

- Ask for Customs assessment – Check duty

- Ask for TICT terminal receipt – N420k for 20ft, N680k for 40ft

- Ask for shipping line invoice – Check demurrage dates

- Pay agent fee N250k-N350k only after cargo leaves port – Not before

- Transport N1.2M-N1.4M for 20ft to Abuja – Not N2M

If agent cannot provide receipts, change agent.

For Abuja Dei-Dei importers Oct 2026: If clearing 40ft container of building materials from China, budget agent fee N250k-N400k + TICT terminal N420k or APM Terminals N450k + shipping N600k + customs duty N12M + transport to Abuja N900k = Total N19M-N20M landed Abuja. To save N900k road haulage and avoid Apapa gridlock, use Apapa to Kaduna rail N800k then 2hrs to Abuja – Total via Kaduna Dry Port N20.5M-N21.5M but faster and less police checkpoints. Receipt attached from TICT Oct 2026.
