BREAKING: NPA Live Tracker 27 Oct – 15 Ships Expected Lagos Till 29 Oct, 16 Discharging, 5 Waiting – Abuja Importers Alert By Josh Akinde|Lagos
Lagos Ports Expect 15 Ships Carrying Fuel, Food Cargo – NPA Daily Shipping Position Update for 27 October 2026
Nigeria’s main Lagos ports are buzzing this week. The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) said in its Daily Shipping Position released Friday 24 Oct and valid till Wednesday 29 Oct that 15 vessels laden with fuel, food and commercial cargo are expected at Apapa and Tin Can Island.
For Abuja importers following Nigeria Anchorage – www.nigeriaanchorage.blogspot.com – this is the best week to clear. According to NPA, seven of the expected ships are container vessels carrying assorted goods, electronics, machinery and general merchandise. The remaining eight will deliver bulk wheat, bulk salt, general cargo, trucks, diesel base oil and aviation fuel.
This is critical. In September, Apapa gridlock caused by 32 vessels caused N5 million daily loss for Northern importers. Now with only 15 expected, berths are free.
Five vessels including tankers have already arrived at Apapa and Tin Can Island but are waiting for berths as of 27 Oct morning. Their cargo includes containers, transformers, petrol and general goods. NPA said these five are at Lagos anchorage pending allocation.
Meanwhile, 16 ships are currently discharging at the two Lagos ports. Cargo being offloaded includes bulk wheat, base oil, bulk fertilizer, trucks, general cargo, fresh fish, containers, bulk sugar, steel products and petrol. This is huge for food security. The bulk wheat vessels will help flour mills in Kano and Kaduna reduce price.
For Abuja importers using Dala Dry Port Kano and Kaduna Inland Dry Port linkage, note this: The container vessels expected this week contain mostly 40ft containers from China. If your bill of lading shows ETA 28-30 Oct, inform your clearing agent now. Duty rate is N1,367.61 per dollar as of today 27 Oct. With CBN selling $500m yesterday, forex will be available.
The base oil and diesel vessels are also good news. One vessel with diesel base oil will supply lubricant blending plants in Lagos. Aviation fuel vessels will support domestic airlines like Rano Air operating Abuja to Dutse from November. Jet A1 price may drop from N1,200 per litre.
The trucks vessel carrying over 70 trucks will be auctioned or cleared at Tin Can. Haulage cost from Lagos to Abuja for 40ft container currently N2.8m to N3.5m may drop to N2.5m due to more trucks available.
What you must do if you are Abuja importer? Check your Form M expiry. If your container is among the 7 expected, ensure PAAR is ready. Pay duty early before rate moves to N1,380.
Nigeria Anchorage analysis: This week’s 15 ships expected is lower than last month’s 28 ships. That means less congestion at Apapa and Tin Can. Northern trade corridor via Baro River Port planned 284sqkm smart city will need this type of traffic in future.
