Dollar to Naira, CBN, Black Market
Dollar to naira today 28 October 2026 opened stable after yesterday's shock. The naira is trading at N1,365.40 per dollar at the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) on Tuesday 28 Oct 10:06 WAT, slightly stronger than yesterday's N1,367.61.
Data from FMDQ and CBN shows CBN sold $300 million to banks on Tuesday morning to defend the naira. Turnover today is $520 million with 480 deals as of 10am. External reserves remain strong at $55.17 billion as of 23 Oct, up from $53bn last month.
At the black market in Lagos, Abuja Wuse Zone 4, Kano and Port Harcourt, Aboki dealers today 28 Oct 10:06 WAT are buying dollar at N1,368 to N1,380 and selling at N1,380 to N1,388. The most quoted rate is N1,380 buy, N1,388 sell. $100 gives you N138,000, $1,000 gives N1,380,000.
The gap between official N1,365.40 and black N1,380 is only N14.60 or 1.06 percent. Same tightest gap in 3 months as yesterday. It means CBN reforms are working. CBN Governor says gap below 2% is target.
What to do today?
If you need dollar for school fees, PTA, BTA or import, use official bank rate N1,365.40 if your bank has it. If not, black market N1,388 is safe benchmark. Avoid dealers above N1,395. Pay Customs duty today – Rate may go to N1,370 tomorrow if CBN stops intervention.
For Abuja importers in Dei-Dei and Kado, this is best week to clear. NPA reports 15 ships expected till 29 Oct and 16 ships discharging at Apapa and Tin Can today. Berths are free. Trucking Apapa to Abuja now 7 days vs 10 days in September.
Follow www.nigeriaanchorage.blogspot.com for daily dollar and NPA 15 ships tracker for Abuja importers. Tomorrow rate expected N1,363-N1,368 official if CBN sells another $200m.
