NASS PASAN CHAPTER CONGRESS ENDS ABRUPTLY AS SABIYI LED – EXCO WAS DISLOVED by Musa Usman

The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), National Assembly chapter, on Monday held a congress, which ended up abruptly as aggrieved members of the association dissolved the embattled Sunday Sabiyi led executive council, for what they describe as abuse of rule of law, constitutional breach and disregard/undermining the congress.

The Independent Publishers gathered that the congress organized by members of the chapter in conjunction with the office of Trade Union Register, Federal ministry of Labour and Employment was to resolve the lingering crisis of funds mismanagement accrued to the chapter since 2019 till date, financial returns and audited account of the association, as applicable to the chapter, and others issues bedeviling the chapter.

The congress which commenced with prayers by both Christian and Muslim, was met with rejection by members who called for amendments of the congress rules to reflect issue affecting the chapter, but was ignored by the chairman, Mr. Sunday Sabiyi.

Accordingly, this led to rowdy session and intervention of security agents – the Police, Civil defense corp, Sergeant – at – arm of the National Assembly and the rest, resulting in taking away the embattled Chairman, Mr. Sunday Sabiyi, by the security operatives present at the hall.

Comrade Odo Chris M.C, who addressed the congress, said the main reason for the congress is for the presentation of audited financial statement, with a view to resolve the conflict in the chapter but that the proceedings contradicts PASAN constitution and defiance to the directives of the Trade Union Registrar.

This was what led the members to call for dissolution of the chapter executive, through a motion by Comrade Odo Chris and seconded by Moses Anele, expressing the congress displeasure of abuse of rule of law, constitution, disregard and undermining the congress, in the presence of internal and external observers.

However, the adoption of the motion by the congress, informed a group of the association appeared loyal to Sunday Sabiyi to reject the adoption and chased away both the National officers and the Sunday Sabiyi Exco, Which led to the congress to end abruptly, with the aggrieved association members shouting “Sabiyi Ole – Ole”.
