The Bauchi Concerned Group (BCG) has strongly refuted recent allegations made by activist and publisher, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, against prominent individuals in Bauchi State, including Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed, Engr. Addressing a press conference in Bauchi, the Chief Convener of the group, Nasir Abdullahi, described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated, aimed at tarnishing the image of key actors in the Bala Mohammed administration and distracting from the state’s visible progress.
Abdullahi defended Engr. Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed’s decision to seek legal redress against Dr. Abubakar Ahmad, citing constitutional provisions that guarantee the right to privacy and legal protection from defamation. He clarified that the remand of Dr. Ahmad was the decision of the Magistrate Court, not a personal act by Shamsuddeen, and dismissed claims of abuse of power.
On the issue of bail denial by Justice Kawu Yarima, BCG reminded the public that bail remains a discretionary power of the court. It urged Sowore and others dissatisfied with judicial rulings to seek redress through proper legal channels instead of media sensationalism.
The group also criticized the attacks on Hon. Justice Rabi Talatu Umar over alleged land allocations, stating that mere possession of a site plan is not proof of wrongdoing. They emphasized that judicial officers have the same constitutional rights as other citizens, including land ownership.
Concerning the First Lady’s farmland acquisition, the BCG affirmed the legality of the process, dismissing any suggestions of impropriety as unfounded. “The First Lady is within her rights to engage in lawful agricultural ventures,” Abdullahi stated.
On alleged contract awards to Shamsuddeen, the group argued that no law prevents him from engaging in legitimate business, provided due process is followed. It urged critics to focus on project delivery rather than speculative ownership.
The group further defended the Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Yakubu Adamu, calling the attacks against him politically driven due to his rising profile.
Issuing a stern warning, the BCG demanded a public retraction and apology from Mr. Sowore or face legal action. “We will not fold our arms while Bauchi’s progress is threatened by smear campaigns,” Abdullahi concluded.
