The governor gave the commendation while attending the 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA) organised by the Nigerian Army at the 26 Armoured Brigade Barracks, Yagaba, Dutse.
Governor Namadi described WASA as a long-standing tradition that fosters unity, cultural integration and strong civil–military relations between the Armed Forces and host communities.
He praised the leadership and personnel of the 26 Armoured Brigade for their effective collaboration with other security agencies under Operation Salama, noting that the joint efforts have helped curb kidnapping, cattle rustling, farmer–herder clashes and other criminal activities in Jigawa State.
According to the governor, the improved coordination among security agencies has contributed significantly to peace, stability and the protection of lives and property across the state.
Governor Namadi particularly applauded the officers and men of the Brigade for their discipline, dedication, professionalism and resilience, stressing that their sacrifices continue to ensure a safer Jigawa.
He also honoured officers and soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing them as heroes whose sacrifices would forever be remembered.
The governor urged security personnel to remain steadfast and committed to their constitutional responsibilities, while assuring them of the Jigawa State Government’s continued support.
Governor Namadi further appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, for providing the necessary support, equipment and enabling environment for the military to effectively discharge its duties nationwide.
Earlier, the Commander of the 26 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier-General T. J. Mackintosh, said WASA is an age-long Nigerian Army tradition observed annually at the end of the rainy season, with origins tracing back to the West African Frontier Force.
He explained that the event serves as a platform for showcasing Nigeria’s cultural diversity, strengthening unity and deepening civil–military relations.
Brigadier-General Mackintosh noted that despite security challenges within the Brigade’s operational area, notable successes were recorded through sustained operational engagements during the year.
He assured that the 26 Armoured Brigade remains committed to consolidating its gains and maintaining a high operational tempo to respond swiftly to emerging security threats in Jigawa State.
