Tinubu Takes Nigeria–Türkiye Partnership to Next Level

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday, January 26, for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, as Nigeria intensifies efforts to attract foreign investment and expand strategic economic partnerships.

President Ahmed Bola Tinubu of Nigeria.

The visit is expected to deepen Nigeria–Türkiye economic relations, with a strong focus on investment flows, trade expansion, and private-sector collaboration across key growth sectors, including security manufacturing, education services, social development, innovation, and aviation.

During the visit, President Tinubu will hold high-level engagements with Turkish authorities aimed at strengthening bilateral economic frameworks and advancing cooperation in finance, communications, trade facilitation, and cross-border investment.

Central to the visit is the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering priority sectors such as scientific research, energy development, technical and industrial cooperation, media and communications, defence manufacturing, and institutional protocols designed to ease business operations between both countries.

A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will bring together investors, industry leaders, and policymakers from both countries to explore bankable opportunities, joint ventures, and long-term partnerships, particularly in infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, aviation, and technology-driven enterprises.

The visit also builds on the growing economic relationship between both countries, following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s official visit to Nigeria in October 2021, which laid the groundwork for expanded trade and investment cooperation.

President Tinubu’s delegation includes key economic and security policymakers expected to participate in bilateral discussions and investor-focused engagements. They include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and the Chairman, House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.

Other members of the delegation are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu is expected to return to the country at the conclusion of the visit.
