Can Gov.Bala Mohammed Affirmative Achievements answer the quest for gender emancipation? By okwo romeon The “International Day for Women”was marked barely two weeks ago, the occasion brought forth, the time, for the male counterparts to led their voice in for “women right freedoms” ,showcases women achievements, strengths, the roles of mothers across the globe as well as their cries for gender balancing and political inclusion of women especially in Africa countries which has their affirmative positions below the thirty five percent benchmarks. In Nigeria, the activities was on a higher gear as the wife of the President,Mrs Aisha Buhari with Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo wife of the Vice President for the first time led a civic coalition of women groups in the country to the national parliament to lobbied for the amendment of the nation constitution that should give “reserved number of seats”in the parliament for women representation. However, the Agbanilistic style appearance of the women’s inside the red and green chamber of the national parliament could not change mood of the male dominated senate and House of Representatives as both chamber buried their heads on cultural sediments to vote nail against every clauses, that will measure the women quest against their malesforks there by turning the journey of the women in the parliament that day to mere a dry contest. But the mission of the women’s is not lost at all as governors who are gender sensitive are doing exactly what the womenfolk expect in some of their states. For instance,Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has been rank top of his peers among the thirty six governors when it comes to women representation or gender affirmative. Over the last three years ,Gov.Bala affirmative agenda has became a reference point in the country. In the last count, about eight to ten women were members of the state executive cabinet, about seven Special Advisers and over ten Chief Executives of state own MDAs were held by women which in sum total has constituted about 45% of women representatives,a ten percent benchmark above the thirty five percent affirmative engagement the women are asking for. But the issues of electing women solely lie with the electorate which the women themselves constitute a large chunk of the voters With this, gov Bala Mohammed has outshine any the problem of gender affirmative in his state. One cannot say exactly how easy women in Bauchi state manage to achieved sort fig for male dominated polity like Bauchi state, but like every battle, the willingness of the person in the herd of affairs and the ability of first lady of the state,Ahajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed to have deployed the antis of motherhood for her follow women may not be far from the truth. Although governor Bala Mohammed deserves an excellent commendation, it still has room to do more as in the local government council which is the heart of grassroots and a bond with womenhood,no woman is currently occupying such post ,a position lady Activist and Chief executive of “Bauchi women in politics” Mrs Ladi Moses want the governor to address. As the nation head toward another general elections, the Nigerians women’s is a force not to be taken for granted, with their experiences in the parliament weeks back, high spirits women activists across the country civic space has sworn a pay-back-time for legislators who vote against the amendment clauses by publicly naming them and campaign for “no vote for them”by women. If the unity by which the womenfolk move with to the national parliament can be replica come 2023 ,governor Bala Mohammed political grandeur in Bauchi could be assured as daybreaks as the governor commitment to women in his state and Nigeria as whole had demonstrated his capacity for gender inclusion in all sphere which is the new gamut for gender balancing in twenty first century. The women of Bauchi most understand that no mind the religious background, Governor Bala has shown that religion does not stop women from aspiring in their dreams, as both men and women had the equal capacity and it is when they find a leader like their governor who carried such a lofty heart of love for women that this momentous achievement of their governor can be sustained at long run so it is their responsibility to widen their sensitization to reach more women and so they can reward their governor with vote come 2023.
