Cooks who are unwilling to share their bounty. by Okwo Romeon.
Our country, "Nigeria," is at a crossroads, and whatever we do as a people to salvage the situation will not be too great a sacrifice. From community leaders to our politicians, the beacon is on, but the people heeding the calls are what should be most important to the masses. It is not because the current political class who threw their hats into the contest are not qualified, but Nigerians are afraid of what would still be their political actions if some of them are still returned to office.
Available records of some of them have shown that most of them were corrupt-minded while in their previous office, and it is mind-boggling if one gets to know the enormity of wealth most of them have when they can purchase nomination forms of their party as high as a hundred million naira in a chicken exchange.
Regardless of the image laundering done by some of them to relaunch their stolen wealth and create a nice impression of successful technocrats in their careers, it is a smart reversal of the robbed cooks' scenario on Nigerians. From religious leaders to political leaders, the upside-down Robbin Cooks philosophy is what drives most of our social leaders. That is why in Nigeria, G.O.C will build a university and the members' children of the church cannot attend the schools. That is why elected politicians are paid a hundred times more than selfless civil servants. It is also the reason professors and other academicians leave classes and campuses to be of common errand assistance to politicians rather than take pride in their field.
In Nigeria, the list of societal discordant is growing by the day. No matter how righteous a Nigerian wears his or her looks, the other side is the prolonged abnormalities he or she has been groomed to swallow. Most of our drivers display these realities on the road; it is also the undocumented standard of our security personnel, and even the so-called men of God have their doubts.
Just last week, a man of God of one of the country's largest churches was quoted in the newspaper saying "the office of our presidency was too low for him to aspire to." He preferred to be president of his churches.Worldwide, the G.O was also reported saying "becoming President of his country is a demotion to his personality." But he has also forgotten that it was the political stability provided by previous political leaders that allowed him to soar all those years ago when he began his gospel journey.
If not for the politics of sacrifice laid by thesefellows, there would be a country called Nigeria today. I wonder what would have become of the country today if those leaders were afraid of taking such measures and felt too proud to steer the affairs of the nation.
We lost patriotism because of our wealth. Where is it written that the priest is greater than the nation? Not even in the nation of Israel, where our Christianity is modeled after.
We know that Christianity didn't preach religion in such a way. Most of the politicians have not given us the desired leadership, but Nigerians can not also get the alternative from the clergymen.
Just last week, we saw Pastor Tunde Bakare, a vocal man of God and G.O of the Later Rain Assembly, a multi-million-packed church with his operation head office in Lagos, pick the presidential form. Many questions have been asked. If Bakare can pay for a nomination form for as high as 100 million, why has he not impacted positively on the well-being of his church members who are living below the poverty benchmark of a dollar? This kind of action explains the kind of leadership the men of God and politicians are leading the people. It is a typical irony of taking from the poorest to keep their empires.
While the Ukrainians will travel from afar to defend their country, it will be difficult for the citizens of this country to do the same when the need arises. Most people have lost hope in the country, where most Nigerians in the Northeast and North Central would prefer to provide security intelligence to aggressors than the government security agencies, showing the level of decadence the country has found itself in.
Although we continue to play along with the ethnic sediment as a nation, the prospect ahead will consume all of us one day. Until it is completely accepted that Nigeria belongs to us and no particular tribal should dictate the political direction of this country more than the others, the opposite of the robbing cooks philosophy of robbing the poor to pay the rich will continue.
