The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his withdrawal from the gubernatorial primaries of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Governor Fubara said the decision followed extensive consultations with his family, friends, and political associates, stressing that the interest of Rivers State must come above personal ambition.

According to him, leadership demands sacrifice, especially at a time when the peace, stability, and unity of the state are paramount.

“I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC gubernatorial primaries,” he stated, adding that he remains fully committed to supporting whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.

The governor expressed appreciation to his supporters for their loyalty, prayers, and sacrifices throughout his political journey, acknowledging that many may feel disappointed by the development.

Fubara explained that his silence in recent weeks was deliberate and guided by the higher interest of the state, noting that some political realities are best handled with wisdom and restraint.

“As our elders say, not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace,” he remarked.

He also thanked Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement and support, while reaffirming his loyalty to the APC as a platform for national development.

The governor maintained that his decision to step aside should not be interpreted as an act of weakness or surrender, but rather as a sacrifice aimed at preserving peace and unity in Rivers State.

Fubara further pledged to continue serving the people of Rivers State diligently until the completion of his tenure.
