Bala Mohammed Defects to APM, Signals New Political Direction for Bauchi
The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), in what observers describe as a major political shift aimed at reshaping the state’s governance and political structure.
Announcing the move at the Government House in Bauchi, the governor said the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and supporters across the state. He stressed that the defection was a strategic step toward building a more cohesive, disciplined, and people-focused political platform.

According to Mohammed, the transition is not driven by internal party disagreements but by a deliberate effort to create a stronger framework capable of delivering sustainable development and improved democratic outcomes for the people of Bauchi State.
He noted that the realignment is part of a broader vision to deepen grassroots engagement, ensure continuity in governance, and reposition the state politically ahead of future electoral contests.
As part of the transition process, members of the State Executive Council have stepped aside to facilitate a smooth restructuring of the administration in line with the new political direction.
The governor also disclosed that a comprehensive mobilization drive is underway, including the introduction of digital membership registration across wards and local government areas to expand participation and strengthen the party’s base.
Describing the move as forward-looking, Mohammed said it represents “a deliberate advance” toward a more inclusive and strategically positioned political future.
Reacting to the development, the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, welcomed the governor into the party, describing his defection as a significant boost to the party’s national profile and organizational strength.
Dantalle reaffirmed the party’s commitment to integrity, service, and grassroots empowerment, adding that the APM remains focused on providing a credible and people-oriented alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The governor’s defection is widely seen as a pivotal moment in Bauchi State politics, signaling a renewed push for political independence and a redefined approach to governance.
