Jigawa APC Gains Strength as Governor Namadi Welcomes PDP Defectors, Promises Fair Inclusion From Abdullahi Idris, Dutse

Governor Umar Namadi has received another set of prominent defectors from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) into the All Progressives Congress (APC), further strengthening the ruling party’s foothold in Jigawa State.

The new entrants—Alhaji Sani Haru Babura from Babura Local Government Area and Alhaji Mustapha Sule Tankarkar from Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area—arrived at the Government House in Dutse alongside party leaders and supporters, reflecting their strong grassroots influence.

The reception highlighted the growing momentum of the APC in the state, attracting community mobilisers and seasoned political actors who have remained influential in their respective areas.

Speaking during the event, Governor Namadi described the defection as a significant political development, noting that both leaders had spent nearly 28 years in the PDP before making their move.

“These are people who have spent 28 years in PDP without thinking of changing any party. Today, by the grace of Allah, they are here,” he said.

He commended their credibility and deep-rooted connections with the people, emphasizing that their presence would further strengthen the APC’s structure.

“They are people of integrity, character, and trust. You can see the number of supporters they came with,” the governor added.

Governor Namadi noted that the continuous influx of members into the APC signals growing confidence in the party’s leadership and direction.

“The message is clear. APC remains the leading political force in Jigawa State. The train is moving—you either join or be left behind,” he declared.

He assured the defectors of equal treatment within the party, stressing that there would be no discrimination between old and new members.

“You will be treated equally with those who have been in the APC for a long time. Everyone will be carried along,” he said.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to the development of Jigawa State, with a focus on empowering youth and improving the welfare of women and communities.

“We are committed to progress and development, especially for our youth and women,” he stated.

He also expressed appreciation to the new members for their confidence in the APC, assuring them that their decision would not be in vain.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alhaji Sani Haru Babura and Alhaji Mustapha Sule Tankarkar attributed their decision to Governor Namadi’s fairness, inclusive leadership style, and the execution of people-oriented projects across the state.

They pledged their full support for the APC and vowed to work tirelessly to secure the party’s victory at all levels in the forthcoming general elections.
