ABUJA: The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN), has described the forthcoming Osun State governorship election as Nigeria's most consequential off-cycle poll, assuring Nigerians that the electoral body will deliver a free, fair, credible and transparent election.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Amupitan said the Commission had concluded arrangements to ensure that every stage of the electoral process complies with the Electoral Act and global best practices.

He said INEC remained committed to conducting elections that reflect the will of the people and strengthen public confidence in Nigeria's democratic process.

"The time has come to do the right thing and reinforce Nigerians' confidence in the electoral system through a credible and transparent election," he said.

The INEC chairman assured political parties, candidates and voters of the Commission's neutrality, adding that no effort would be spared to ensure a level playing field for all contestants.
