Bauchi Declares Monday Work-Free Day for LG Elections By Abdullahi Idris - Bauchi

The Bauchi State Government has declared Monday, August 17, 2026, a work-free day across the state to enable workers and residents to participate in the local government elections.

Gov.Bala Mohammed of Bauchi

The declaration, made by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, covers civil servants and other public servants at the local government, state and federal levels, as well as employees in the banking sector.

The decision follows the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission’s (BASIEC) announcement that elections into the local government councils will hold on Monday.

According to the government, the measure is aimed at allowing eligible citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote without being hindered by official duties. Workers engaged in essential services, however, are exempted.

The government urged residents to come out peacefully and exercise their franchise in accordance with the law, while calling on voters to conduct themselves responsibly before, during and after the elections.

It also assured residents that relevant authorities would work to provide a peaceful and orderly electoral environment, and urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies and electoral officials.

The government wished the people of Bauchi State a peaceful and successful local government election.
