Nasarawa 2027: APC Gains Momentum as Opposition Members Return to Party By Julius M Ajah

Lafia, Nasarawa State — The political landscape in Nasarawa State recorded a fresh realignment at the weekend as members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a mobilisation reception in Lafia Local Government Area.

The event, organised by the nine wards of the 9 Wards Progressive Forum, was held at Akurba Electoral Ward and brought together party stakeholders, supporters and returning members in what participants described as a renewed effort to strengthen unity within the ruling party.

The gathering also featured an endorsement of the candidacy of an APC aspirant for governor of the state, with participants declaring support for APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The return of members from opposition parties was presented by party leaders as evidence of growing political reconciliation and a desire to consolidate the party's structure across the state.

Addressing the gathering, the governorship aspirant expressed appreciation to the returning members for their decision to rejoin the APC, describing the development as a demonstration that shared interests and aspirations could transcend political differences.

He said the decision by the defectors reflected confidence in the party and a willingness to work collectively towards the development of Nasarawa State.

He also expressed gratitude for the endorsement of his governorship ambition, saying the support came with a greater responsibility to serve the people rather than as a validation of personal ambition.

According to him, leadership should be defined by service, public trust and the willingness to place the interests of citizens above individual considerations

The aspirant said: “Leadership is not about personal ambition; it is about service, trust, and the courage to put the interests of the people first.”

He further called for unity of purpose among party members and stakeholders, stressing the need for collective commitment to the development of the state.

The mobilisation comes against the backdrop of increasing political activity across Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 elections, with political parties and aspirants intensifying efforts to consolidate their structures and attract supporters.

For the APC, the movement of opposition members into its fold could provide additional momentum as the party seeks to maintain its political influence in the state.

However, the development also highlights the increasingly competitive nature of the state's political landscape, where alliances, defections and grassroots mobilisation are expected to shape the contest ahead of the next general elections.

The organisers said the reception was not only intended to welcome returning members but also to reinforce reconciliation and grassroots engagement among APC supporters across Lafia Local Government Area.

They urged members to remain united and focused on issues of governance, development and the welfare of citizens as the political process progresses.
