Category 2 standards, the Zamfara State Government has said. The exercise, conducted from August 17 by aviation experts using a calibration aircraft, involved flight-checking the airport’s navigational and other critical aviation equipment. The preliminary findings were formally presented to the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Amiru Musa Anka.

The ministry described the outcome as a significant milestone but stressed that the Category 2 rating does not, on its own, clear the airport for commercial flights. Regulatory, operational and safety requirements must still be satisfied before operations can begin.
A final calibration report is expected within four weeks and will contain detailed technical findings and recommendations.
The ministry said maintaining the standard achieved would require regular servicing, maintenance and periodic calibration of critical airport systems. It pledged to work with relevant aviation agencies and airport management to ensure continued compliance with applicable standards.
It commended the calibration team and other stakeholders involved in the exercise, while crediting the state government’s leadership and funding for helping the project reach the calibration stage within about three years of commencement.
