Betara Brings Former Classmates Together After Five Decades By Okwo romeon
Nearly two decades into his career in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara set aside the demands of national public office to reunite with the primary school classmates with whom he shared his earliest years, hosting a gathering that brought old friends together more than 50 years after their school days.
Betara, who has represented the Biu/Bayo/Shani/Kwaya Kusar Federal Constituency of Borno State since 2007 and currently chairs the House Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, hosted the reunion as former classmates gathered to reconnect and celebrate a friendship that has endured across generations.
The gathering quickly turned into an animated exchange of stories, laughter and familiar nicknames as the former pupils revisited their primary school years.
Teachers, classmates, playground adventures and youthful escapades became subjects of conversation, demonstrating how vividly those early experiences have remained with them despite the passage of decades. The classmates have since followed different paths, building careers, raising families and assuming responsibilities far removed from the simplicity of their school days.
For Betara, however, the reunion offered an opportunity to temporarily step away from the demands of public office and reconnect with people who knew him long before his political career.
The former classmates have occasionally met whenever they return home, but each gathering provides another opportunity to renew old friendships and reconnect with a shared history.
More than 50 years after leaving primary school, the bond among the classmates remains evident.
Their reunion was a reminder that while careers, responsibilities and circumstances may change, relationships formed in the formative years can endure.
Betara's gathering was ultimately a celebration of friendship—and of a childhood that time has failed to erase.
