EL-RUFAI FAMILY GIVES DEFENCE MINISTER 7-DAY ULTIMATUM OVER ‘SOUTHERN KADUNA KILLINGS’ CLAIM Produce evidence or retract
allegation, apologise — Family threatens legal action
Abuja: The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), to produce evidence backing his allegation that El-Rufai actively planned killings in Southern Kaduna while serving as governor.
The ultimatum followed remarks allegedly made by Musa during a live edition of Politics Today on Channels Television on September 3, 2026, in which the minister accused the former governor of involvement in the planning of killings in the troubled Southern Kaduna area.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday in Abuja and signed by Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the family, the El-Rufai family described the allegation as grave and unsubstantiated, stressing that no evidence was presented during the television programme to support the claim.
The family said while the Defence Minister was entitled to express his personal views, he must also be prepared to substantiate serious allegations capable of damaging an individual's reputation.
The statement demanded that General Musa either publicly produce credible evidence supporting the allegation or retract it and apologise through the same medium where it was made.
“Accordingly, General Musa (Rtd.) is hereby given seven (7) days from the date of this statement to either provide evidence in support of his allegation or issue a full public retraction and apology,” the family said.
It warned that failure to comply would compel the family to pursue “all appropriate legal remedies available under the law” over what it described as unsubstantiated allegations.
The latest development is expected to further intensify the political and public debate surrounding the former Kaduna governor, who is now an opposition leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The family maintained that allegations of such magnitude should not be made without credible evidence and insisted that General Musa should substantiate his claim or withdraw it.
