MANGU, PLATEAU — Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, has called on the Federal Government to urgently intensify efforts to secure communities affected by terrorism and create conditions for the safe and dignified return of thousands of displaced Nigerians.

Obi made the call on Tuesday after visiting an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, where more than 500 displaced persons are reportedly taking refuge.

The visit came a day after Obi said his delegation was prevented from proceeding to Yelwata in Benue State to visit displaced Nigerians and families affected by recent attacks.

Obi said the situation confronting displaced communities in Mangu was “deeply disturbing”, alleging that more than 45,000 people had been displaced and over 20 communities sacked by terrorists.

He said the displaced Nigerians were citizens who wanted to return to their ancestral homes, rebuild their communities, cultivate their farms and live in peace and dignity.

«“As long as there is one displaced Nigerian, all Nigerians are displaced,” Obi declared.»

The former Anambra State governor urged the government to do more to protect vulnerable communities, stressing that every Nigerian was entitled to life, safety, dignity and livelihood regardless of ethnicity, religion or political affiliation.

He warned against allowing displaced persons to become “forgotten Nigerians”, insisting that government must secure their communities and provide the necessary support for them to rebuild their homes and livelihoods.

Obi also provided what he described as modest support to displaced families at the camp as a gesture of solidarity and compassion.

He said his vision of a New Nigeria was one where citizens could live, work, farm, raise families and pursue their aspirations without fear.

“

A New Nigeria is POssible,” he said.
