NNPC Retail Unveils First Self-Service Smart Station in Abuja By Okwo Romeon
Technology-driven facility offers 24-hour fuel dispensing, EV charging, car wash, LPG services
NNPC Retail has commissioned its first technology-powered self-service smart station in Abuja, signalling a shift towards more automated, convenient and customer-focused fuel retailing in Nigeria.
Located along Bill Clinton Drive on Airport Road, the 24-hour facility allows motorists to dispense fuel independently and pay for the exact quantity required, while offering a range of additional energy and mobility services.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Executive Vice-President, Downstream, NNPC Ltd, Dr Mumuni Dagazau, described the facility as a reflection of NNPC Retail’s commitment to innovation, operational efficiency and improved customer experience.
Dagazau commended the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for providing the land and supporting the partnership that enabled the project.
The Managing Director of NNPC Retail, Huub Stokman, said the facility demonstrated the changes taking place in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum industry and the company’s determination to respond to growing consumer expectations for speed, convenience, reliability and quality service.
Beyond self-service fuel dispensing, the station features electric-vehicle charging points, an automated car wash, a lubricant service bay, LPG dispensing and other lifestyle services.
NNPC Retail said it plans to expand the station’s energy offerings to include compressed natural gas (CNG), further positioning the facility as a modern energy and mobility hub.
The commissioning represents a new phase in NNPC Retail’s strategy to transform conventional filling stations into integrated smart energy, mobility and lifestyle destinations, with similar customer-focused innovations expected to shape its retail operations across Nigeria.
